GTRC offers several programs designed for multiple offenders and employees who work under the jurisdiction of the Department of Transportation.

DUI Treatment for Second and Subsequent Offenders

DUI Treatment is a program for multiple DUI offenders. To qualify for this program an individual must have been convicted with a second or subsequent DUI offense and must NOT be in active addiction. Group members must present a copy of their Mississippi driving record.

Successful completion of this program may reduce the participant's driver’s license suspension by 12 to 24 months. The DUI Treatment program focuses on alcohol and drug education and the legal, financial, and emotional consequences of driving under the influence.

DUI Treatment is a 10-week program. In order to complete DUI Treatment, an individual must attend ten 2-hour sessions.

Overview of SAP Services

Substance Abuse Professionals serve as the “gatekeeper” for DOT’s return-to-duty process.  In compliance with the Code of Federal Regulations 49 Part 40, all employees who have violated a DOT drug and alcohol regulation must meet with a SAP before returning to duty.

bulletEvaluation

Evaluation is based on a face-to-face meeting between the SAP and the employee who has violated a DOT drug and alcohol regulation and includes the use of a psychosocial history. During this time, the SAP will make a recommendation concerning education, treatment, follow-up testing, and aftercare. These recommendations must be met before the employee may return to duty.

bulletReferral to Proper Treatment

After the evaluation, the SAP will refer the employee who has violated a DOT drug and alcohol regulation to appropriate treatment based on the findings of the evaluation.

bulletFollow-Up Evaluation

Upon completing treatment, the employee who has violated a DOT drug and alcohol regulation must meet again with the SAP who completed the evaluation.  A letter detailing treatment results will be sent by the SAP to the person’s employer.
